Musical instruments
Judi and Jeannie both play the mountain dulcimer, a wooden, stringed instrument of American origin. It is placed on the lap and strummed with a pick, feather, or fingers.

Judi plays the hammered dulcimer, which has a more complex, tetrachordal tuning and is played with two, thin wooden hammers. She can actually play this difficult instrument and sing at the same time!

Judi also plays flutes made of ceramic material, which are a bit cruder than their modern counterparts, but offer a rich, warm, and sensuous sound. The Irish tin whistle and modern clarinet are also heard on various songs. Guitar and digital or acoustic keyboards provide the rhythm and harmony for the melody instruments.
