No One's Lesson But Your Own
Jeannie Clark Fisher © 2000
It takes a thought you've found alone
That's no one's lesson but your own.
To know that things are what you see
And not what people may make it to be,
To let your heart again be free.
Well, I've got all I need to live,
A song that's in my soul to give,
A love that's in my arms to hold,
As I grow young from feeling old.
Some times it's very hard to see
Beyond your own suffering.
And thoughts of pain will grow like weeds,
With enemies and jealousy,
To make you cry so helplessly.
Well, come on and lose those thoughts of hate.
The time slips by you while you wait.
It's only fear that makes you shun
The things you've never tried nor done.

Down To The Bone
Jeannie Clark Fisher © 2000
For hate crime victim, James Byrd, Jr.
Torture a man
Who would torture a man,
So hed feel every agony
Dragged to the bone.
Pulled from the bottom,
Bare flesh to the pavement.
They pulled him in agony
Down to the bone.
In their robes of white linen,
Their swastikas hidden.
Bragging with hands bloodied,
Dragged to the bone.
Oh, what a fine deed
Youve done for your countrymen,
Pulled him and dragged him
Right down to the bone.
The time has come
For these pale ones to see,
That an eye for an eye
Would be well fit by me.
If I could believe
That theyd all burn in hell,
Maybe then they would know
What it feels like
To melt to the bone.
Amazing grace
How sweet the sound.
Save us poor sinners,
Who know not
What we do.
Postscript: "I'm not really advocating torture in this song. I'm expressing rage at this senseless, horrendous crime and I want justice to be served". -Jeannie

When You Go
Jeannie Clark Fisher © 2000
For our children
Part of me is leaving when you go
Its leaving with your pale white skin,
Going with your soft, sweet breath.
You think I shouldnt miss the part of me
Youre taking when you leave,
A seed thats taken many years to sow.
Part of me is singing in your song
I hear it in your forceful notes
Longing to be far from here.
You may not hear my echoed voice
That sings in distant harmony.
The melody will follow when you go.
(Chorus)
When you go,
Part of me is leaving with you now.
When you go
I will find the strength to let you go.
Part of me is ready to let go
The part that watches guard at night
And hovers guardingly by day.
Take an angel with you just to
Ease my mind a little now,
That part of me is leaving when you go.
Part of me is staying when you go
The part that holds the thoughts of you
Living in my memory,
The imprint of your being
Flowing in and out of me,
This will be my solace when you go.
